The increasing global demand for affordable energy combined with the rapidły decreasing cost of solar photovoltaic paneis and other renewable power generation equipment provides a unique opportunity to drastically reduce the cost of energy today. This is particu- larly true for locally produced power in remote locations, but it is also valid for continen- tal-scale grid customers. With the addition of breakthiroughs in energy storage technolo- gies offered by Caterpillar, cutting-edge systems are now able to power sustainable prosperity everywhere and all the time. Continental-scałe grids face stability challenges as they add an increasing percentage of intermittent renewables to their power generation source mix, but energy storage allows for more renewable energy in the mix. By implementing small- or medium-scale electricity storage at the user level, smaller scale grids or microgrids can overcome the challenge of intermittence and increase their use of renewables, significantly reducing the levelized cost of electricity for consumers.
